I need you, I love you

zerostumbleine33:

I have a lot to say about this episode, but I just want to write one thing tonight before going to bed.

Dean:This isn’t you. Cas, I know you’re in there. I know you can hear me. Cas, it’s me. We’re family. We need you; I need you.

People seem to be mildly upset about this, because it seems to put destiel into the “family” love category. I was shocked after I saw the episode because I was like on cloud line. The way I understood and still understand the line, must be different from most people.

Dean says “we’re family”, we are family…and this is followed by “we need you”. WHO is this “we”? It is him and Sam…he starts out in a safe zone. “WE need you” because both Sam and Dean need Cas around. Prefacing that initial we, with another “we”. He is talking about the three of them, team free will! Of course Castiel is family in that context, just as much as a brother-in-law is still family, the notion of family is not bad! The whole show is about the importance of family, and choosing family. Family is brothers and sisters, as well as husbands and wives, or husbands and husbands. Family is the central theme of this show! Dean calling Cas family is saying that Cas is still forgiven and is always forgiven, and that he has a home. To go back to the line though, I felt the “we” included how both Winchester’s feel about Castiel.

Sam and Dean collectively needing Castiel isn’t enough though to make Castiel break free. It doesn’t hit hard enough to really hit Castiel in his core, where he needs to be hit. The devastating blow is the last one.

I need you”. How can you not think that is amazing?! There is a difference from how Sam needs Cas, or how Sam and Dean…as hunters (who yes, could use his angel powers) need Cas. Then there is that line where Dean says he personally needs Castiel around. This has nothing to do with needing Cas to help with a hunt, or needing Cas to help take care of Sam (Cas already said Sam is damaged in a way he can’t heal). Dean needs Cas because he loves Cas, Cas is as close as family, but he’s still MORE.

We know the “I love you” line was cut from there, so how can you still doubt about destiel?

Castiel makes the choice. Naomi was trying to condition him to kill Dean specifically for a reason. She gives him the choice as a last resort, knowing what he would choose. “Us or them”, and he chose “them”, he chose Dean. So yeah, the “family” line was important, because Cas is forsaking his heavenly family…for the family he has with Dean. We see it in the text this time, you choose to serve heaven, or you choose Dean Winchester.

HOW is that not moving destiel from subtext to text?! And Dean handles it perfectly, because he offers Castiel a new home. It was beautiful and amazing.

You have Cas choose Dean, and it isn’t about humanity now. It is about choosing to rebel against heaven’s wishes for the sake of Dean alone, and not humanity as a whole.

Not only that, but you have Castiel reach out to heal Dean. Dean’s face is streaked with blood and tears, and he looks up at Castiel, expecting to be killed. Because this is Dean Winchester, and when has anyone ever stuck around because he needed them?

Oh, but Castiel doesn’t just tap his forehead and heal him. Castiel cups Dean’s broken face in his hand and he heals him and then apologizes with the most sincerity that we have seen from Cas this season.

This scene was the climax of the episode, just listen to the music during it. It wasn’t with Sam and Castiel. It was Dean and Castiel. It is there for a reason! The scene is important, and not just in a way to establish Dean and Cas as friends. We have 3 complete seasons prior to this, where we KNOW that Castiel is at least Dean’s closest friend outside of Sam. We know he places Cas on the same level as Sam. Why all the hype, promos, tweets, etc…just for the audience to see how great of buddies these two guys are?

I have so much more to say about this episode, but that was just the iceberg on it. That is what those lines meant to me. They were amazing. I’m just holding on for what comes next.

Saying that Dean and Cas have just as much potential as “any random pairing”

lol NO

Dean and Castiel’s sincere care for each other - that has withstood the most incredible strains and tribulations, and has come out the other side stronger than before - is canon

THAT is what the Dean/Cas ship is based on. It builds on their canon relationship. Not fucking “head canons”.

Whether Dean and Castiel’s relationship could possibly transform into a romantic one is up for debate. That their relationship, as it exists, is important and meaningful, is not.

"Dean, you know, he’s never had a home, it’s been the backseat of a car or a motel room, and all the weapons are on the wall, the memory foam, and he can actually take the picture out of his wallet. It was a poignant moment for the character to have a sense of belonging somewhere, being able to put his stuff down and not have to leave. Of course he’ll always be travelling, but it brings a whole new element to the show, to have a home base like that. Potentially. When I first read about it I said this is a game changer. This could really open up these guys to a whole new way of dealing with things. I think it’s cool."

"Supernatural”: Right now, the Winchesters’ No. 1 priority is closing the gates of hell to keep all the demons out. What they don’t know yet, though, is that in addition to the demon tablet, there’s an angel tablet, which could lock all the angels away for good. The question is, would they be willing to banish Castiel in order to rid the world of all the other angels? “I absolutely think the boys would sacrifice Castiel to get rid of the angels,” Jared Padalecki tells us. “I think they are, not one-track minded, but goal-oriented enough to where you’ve seen them sacrifice themselves or others to try and accomplish a bigger objective … I feel like they would do it. I could be wrong, but I feel like they would do it."

ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME, JARED????

(x)

Someone should ask Jensen.

Guys, being prepared to do it and being happy about it are totally different things.

I see angst in our future. x

(via dancingdogsandbears)

Damn right. He’s not saying they’d kill him, just that if they got the chance to lock up Heaven and stop any more angels fucking with them they’d take it, and if Cas got stuck back up there too then it’s a sacrifice they’re prepared to make to prevent any more apocalypses. Yes, it rubs the wrong way a little cause the Winchesters are always so adamant about not sacrificing each other, but hey, I guess in the end it must be acknowledged that Cas has only been with them for five/seven years rather than the lifetime they’ve known each other, and having him alive is a seriously super-duper awesome for them, but it’s not the be all and end all of their lives like Sam being alive is for Dean. Jesus fandom, calm yo tits.

(via singifyourewithme)

It’s okay, we’re over it now that Cas is a regular next season :)

But I want to point out that the way Jared phrases it here there is no distinction between being prepared to do it and wanting to do it, he just says ‘they WOULD’ do it, without referencing if it would be angsty or not. That’s why a lot of people are/were pissed about this. It gives the impression Jared thinks the boys would sacrifice Cas without a fight, without caring.

On the flip side - to be fair, Dean sacrificed SAM at the end of S05 of course. So it’s not like sacrificing Cas would be something the boys HAVEN’T done with each other already.

I actually really WANT a plot where they have to consider trapping Cas in Heaven as the price of freeing Heaven from angelic influence and all the angst that would come with that :) I just think Jared phrased things badly here (probably because he was answering in a rush I imagine)
